How to Eliminate Allergies and Headaches
and edema, constipation, sinusitis, colds, sore throat, gingivitis, bad breath, loose teeth, bleeding gums, yeast infections, dyspnea, tinnitis, earaches, asthma, pneumonia, rheumatism, arthritis, dermatitis, colitis, diarrhea, constipation, hemorrhoids, body odor, high blood pressure, vertigo, etc. By Dr. Allen Sipes
The causes of disease are Poisons, Trauma and Stress.Poisons, Trauma and Stress cause SUBLUXATIONS. Subluxations interfere with the normal flow of nerve energy between the brain and the tissue cells of the body. Subluxations cause symptoms.
Under Poisons, we have insect and animal bites, poison gases, chemicals (including drugs), tainted food and excess congestive food and drinks. We don't generally think of fast foods and soft drinks in relations to poisons but if we were to have a breakfast every day for a month of pancakes and syrup, mid day snack of donuts and chocolate milk, lunch of lasagna and soft drinks, dinner of pizza pie and glass of wine followed by some chocolate cream pie and coffee and then a dish of ice cream before going to bed, we would be well on our way to having some very uncomfortable symptoms. It is interesting to note that wild animals will not drink soft drinks or alcoholic beverages. Toxic shock causes subluxations.
Under Trauma, we have falls, blows, whiplash, etc. Concussion of forces causes subluxations.
Under Stress, we have intense thinking, suggestion and autosuggestion. Stress causes spinal muscles (like the cat & dog) to contract, which produces subluxations.
Perfect health is maintained and expressed by Spirit or Innate Intelligence through six systemic systems or zones in the body which are the: glandular, eliminative, nervous, digestive, muscular and circulatory systems. These six systems are a lot like six computer chips. They are programmed to regulate and control all body functions perfectly. A disturbance to the function of any of these six systems by poisons, trauma and stress will result in symptoms. What are symptoms? They are labels that describe that a part of the body is not functioning, as it should. On an automobile, a symptom could be an over-heating radiator (radiatoritis). That being the case, we could recommend that a tray of ice cubes be put in the radiator three times a day, a band aid to cover up the red light on the dash and a pair of ear plugs to block out the sound of the warning buzzer. Sounds ridiculous doesn't it?! But isn't that what the general public is doing when they take drugs for "temporary relief"?
As an example, a subluxated disturbance to the glandular system by Poisons, Trauma or Stress can produce depression, anxiety, etc. and interfere with any of the other systems of the body.
A subluxated disturbance to the nervous system can also affect all the other systems and can create symptoms like nervousness, irritability, etc.
Likewise, a subluxated disturbance to the digestive, muscular and circulatory systems can affect the other systems and produce even more symptoms.
Many of our more common symptoms are caused by subluxated disturbances to the Eliminative system. The eliminative system is composed of the skin, lungs, kidneys, bowels and mucous membranes. If there is any interference with the normal elimination of waste through any one of the organs of elimination, especially the kidneys or bowels, the body's Innate Intelligence will increase the elimination through the other organs of elimination.
As an example, if the normal function of the kidneys was disturbed by poisons, trauma or stress and the kidneys were functioning at only 50% of their capacity, Innate will adapt by eliminating the excess liquid waste through the lungs and the other organs of elimination (We normally eliminate about two cups of water a day through the lungs). Early in my career I was asked to make a house call on a young boy suffering with severe asthma attacks. His lips and fingers were blue and his bed sheets were soaking wet. I asked the mother if bedwetting was a chronic problem. She said he didn't wet the bed. It was wet because of his excess sweating. Innate was getting rid of the excess fluids through the lungs, skin and mucous membranes. This also contributes to symptoms like edema, diarrhea, colitis, pneumonia, sinusitis, frontal headaches, gingivitis, allergies, halitosis and colds. Have you ever heard that wet feet causes colds? This is partly true, not because we got water on our feet but because of the chilling effect which causes stress to the kidneys and partly shutting them down. One of Grandmother's cures was a natural diuretic of hot lemon water with honey which stimulated urination and sweating.
When Innate eliminates excess waste through the mucous membranes, it can also produce symptoms of pyorrhea, loss of teeth, tonsillitis, conjunctivitis and yeast infections. Instead of false teeth, a tonsillectomy, a gingivectomy, a D & C or a hysterectomy, why not remove the underlying cause(s) with chiropractic adjustments?
Acid Eats the Container in Which it is Held
Another function of the kidneys is the removal of excess acid waste from the body. To help patients understand this function, I ask if they have ever seen how the acid in the urine will chemically burn a baby's bottom when a wet diaper is left on too long. I also tell them that if we were to do a hundred sit-ups (If I could!), that activity would produce an excess of lactic acid which would cause us to be sore and stiff the next day or two until the kidneys were able to filter the acids out of the body. I then tell them that the digestion of red meat produces uric acid and that is why doctors recommend no red meat for gouty arthritis and rheumatism, but that the biggest cause of excess acidity is from intense thinking especially involving fear, worry, hatred, anger, jealousy, unforgiveness, etc. These emotions cause the glandular system to secrete hormones. According to the medical text, Guyton's Physiology, all hormones are slightly acid and under normal conditions, the kidneys are able to eliminate these excess acids from the body but with on-going emotional stresses and the kidneys are unable to sufficiently eliminate the acid, Innate may eliminate it through the skin and mucous membranes causing dry skin, dermatitis, pruitis, eczema, sore throat and body odor. This logic helps the patient to understand how spinal subluxations to the various organs of elimination can cause symptoms.
The same is true for limited bowel function. If we eat two or three times a day, then we should have two or three bowel movements a day, every day, seven days a week. If we don't, Innate will adapt by absorbing more of the liquid waste from the bowel and eliminating it through the other organs of elimination, causing symptoms like toxic headaches, skin problems, dizziness, hemorrhoids, and colitis along with many of the symptoms just mentioned. It also helps the patient if we explain the physiological cause of most headaches. We do this by sharing with the patient that the brain does not have pain sensors but that the headache pain is caused by the dilation of blood vessels to the brain. We tell the patient that we can go for days without food and water but the brain can only go for minutes without oxygen. So, if a person overindulges in alcoholic beverages and it causes a hangover headache, it is because Innate, in its attempt to get more oxygen to the brain will cause the blood vessels to dilate producing the pulsating and heartbeat throbbing headache. If the body is toxic because of tainted food, constipation or the kidneys inability to filter the blood properly or from other forms of poisoning, we get headaches. Another one of Grandmother's home remedies was an enema to detoxify the body.
When the eliminative system fails to function properly or becomes overloaded producing any of the above mentioned symptoms, not only are chiropractic spinal adjustments necessary to restore normal function, but the law of nutrition also becomes very important. In the book Rays of the Dawn by Dr. Thurman Fleet in the chapter on Nutrition, Dr. Fleet writes, "Most people eat too much starch. That is the reason we have so much sinus trouble, constipation, colds, asthma, whooping cough, colitis and diseases of congestion. The congestive foods are all candy, all cereals, all gum, all soft drinks, anything made from flour, bananas, bread, cake, dried fruits, flour, gravies made from flour, honey, jams, jellies, macaroni, molasses, noodles, old corn and spaghetti."
Dr. Fleet also writes, "Many people eat too many acid-forming foods. This is the cause underlying so much arthritis, rheumatism, neuritis, aches in the joints, eczema, skin trouble, etc. The acid forming foods are avocados, beans beef, butter, cheese, eggs, fish, fowl, lamb, lentils, milk, mushrooms, nuts and pork."
Your Adjustment Won't Hold
An overloaded eliminative system will cause spinal subluxations much like an overloaded electrical system will open a circuit breaker and then need to be reset or adjusted. So, it is very important to also put the patient on a cleansing diet with balanced meals.
Exercise or movement is necessary to distribute nutrients to the body's tissue cells and to neutralize the effects of intense thinking. Tell the patient that there are three ways to get rid of stress and two of them are the same and not recommended (alcohol & drugs). The third way is exercise. Exercise also helps us to obey the law of rest and recuperation. Without exercise, when we go to sleep and we are stressed and tense, the recuperative powers of the body are limited, we don't rest very well and wake up tired.
The law of sanitation involves keeping the body clean both on the inside and outside of the body. Obeying the law of nutrition and eliminating congestive foods is essential in helping to eliminate symptoms.
Without Teaching, There is no Real Healing
The primary purpose to require patients to attend Health Care or Spinal Care classes is to educate them how they can help themselves to regain their health and/or to maintain a high degree of health.
By making it logical to our patients what causes subluxations and in turn, how they cause symptoms, and then giving the patient the responsibility to do their part involving diet, rest, exercise and keeping appointments, they can and will get well. I have used the eliminative system as an example but the glandular, nervous, digestive, muscular and circulatory systems are equally important and also contribute to a great number of symptoms.
Share the above information in Spinal Care Classes along with using your own examples and analogies. Making it logical will help patients to follow through with your recommendations and enable them to refer family and friends to a doctor they believe really understands healing.
Require patients to bring their spouse, other family members and friends to Spinal Care Classes to be a support team to help the patient to follow through with your recommendations concerning diet, rest, exercise and keeping appointments. Patients do not always hear, remember or understand their part in what they need to do, especially if they are in pain or discomfort. Spouses, other family members and friends can be really great support persons, especially when they know what the patient is supposed to do in order to get well. The bigger the patient's support team is, the better for their chance for a quick and complete recovery.
